British American Tobacco Malaysia has an exciting opportunity for a Compliance Specialist in Selangor
This role is responsible for ensuring adherence to BAT’s Standards of Business Conduct, underlying legal standards and in-house policies, as it relates to the compliance topics within the Service Catalogue; Sanctions, Conflicts of Interest, SoBC Signoff, Anti-Finance Crime, Gifts & Entertainment, Policy Management. Responsible for being a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in one or more of the compliance topics as well as supporting End Markets within a DRBU across activities identified in the service catalogue. Being the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for the DRBU. Responsible for enforcing regulations in all aspects and levels of business as well as provide mentorship on compliance matters. Deliver compliance value add services through introduction/coordination of compliance-based process and digitisation initiatives sought at both effectiveness and efficiency. Conduct and manage controls quality (testing) reviews and investigations, including critical issues using available BAT processes (i.e. IRI, Control Navigator Actions).
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Provide mentorship to Central Functions, regional business units, and End Markets on topics covered under the Corporate Compliance Service Catalogue, including deviations to compliance policies and procedures.
- Advise on controls process support models and help ensure consistent implementation across the organization.
- Develop and communicate compliance process mentorship documentation (e.g., guides) to Central Functions and End Markets.
- Coordinate and supervise Quality Assurance Reviews of controls within the compliance topics in the Corporate Compliance Service Catalogue, including the delivery of findings and corrective action plans.
- Develop, conduct, and ensure consistency in compliance training for topics within the Corporate Compliance Service Catalogue, and contribute to End Market Legal and Compliance Training Cycle Plans.
- Prepare and deliver reports/dashboards to senior management on Quality Assurance Review results, corrective action progress, and emerging trends.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert on compliance topics within the Corporate Compliance Service Catalogue, providing expertise on associated policies, procedures, and control processes.
- Collaborate with team members, global compliance SMEs, and other stakeholders to identify training, communication, and process improvements, and engage with governance fora and Business Controls/IA teams on relevant compliance matters.
What are we looking for?
- Education: BSc/BA in law, finance, business administration, or related field; certification as a compliance professional or project management/analysis certification is a plus.
- Experience implementing, managing, or working in an environment with a compliance program, guided by a compliance framework.
- Experience implementing and/or managing compliance controls in a highly digitized environment.
- Experience conducting quality assurance testing on compliance topics or working in an Internal Audit team/capacity.
- Proficiency in using data analytics tools and analytical methods to interrogate data and processes.
- Proven experience in law, ethics, organizational business, or finance (e.g., SOX environment).
- Knowledge of regulations such as Anti-Bribery & Corruption, Anti-Money Laundering, Counter Terrorism Financing, Tax Evasion, Sanctions, Export Controls, and Anti-Competitive Behavior (preferred but not crucial).
- Strong interviewing, investigation, auditing, business engagement, presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to deliver training to both small and large audiences.
- Leadership skills, including leading cross-functional teams to implement global/area compliance requirements and corrective action plans, with strong communication and influencing skills.
