BAT ZIMBABWE IS LOOKING FOR AMECHANICAL TECHNICIAN

SENIORITY LEVEL: Non-Management     

FUNCTION: Operations  

LOCATION: Harare, Zimbabwe

ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES

The Mechanical Technician will carry out planned and corrective maintenance on plant machines and installations including pneumatic systems to ensure maximum availability of equipment. He/she will also ensure the factory is in a safe working condition for everyone.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

  • Lead and support Technical Operators in attending to any machine breakdowns promptly.
  • Trouble shooting and carrying out repairs on production lines with the aim of reducing factory downtime.
  • Carrying out planned maintenance inspections and preventive maintenance.
  • Proficiently operate a Protos Cigarette Maker or a GD Cigarette Packer or a KDF Filter Maker efficiently to achieve agreed production targets while giving the updates on the machine performance and tasks.
  • Lead and support the operators to ensure proper machine settings across the factory to ensure good quality.
  • Carry out modifications to improve on performance following a decision to do so by the manager.
  • Ensure key sub-assembly spares are available when required and in good condition.
  • Lead Technical Operators in carrying out machine conversions when necessary.
  • Lead the team of Technical Operators in projects such as installations and commissioning.
  • Keep accurate daily records/report of work done.

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE

Experience Required

  • At least 5 years’ experience working in a factory setting in a similar position in a manufacturing environment
  • Mechanical operator with demonstrated Preventive Maintenance skills and ability and able to competently carry-out machine installations and troubleshooting on at least a Protos or GD or KDF in SMD

Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required

  • Ensure all machines are safe to operate and properly maintained
  • Ensure adherence to production schedules/plans to ensure all products are produced according to the production plan
  • Take the Lead in Cost Control through optimum spares usage and downtime reduction.
  • Carry out Cleaning, Inspection & Lubrication Audits 
  • Consistently demonstrate positive leadership attributes and lead by example to be a good role model for your managers, peers and Technical Operators.
  • Actively participate and lead (where applicable) IWS activities and initiatives through others to contribute to the team success
  • Lead problem resolution through Gap analysis and troubleshooting by using problem solving and improvement tools.

Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required

  • Certificate/Diploma in Machineshop Engineering or equivalent and previous experience in the tobacco industry.
